Blog Post 34

Well I am pleased to report that it is much the same from where I left off on Friday. All goes very well on my trip. I had a superb week-end in beautiful Clarens with much hiking done and the most glorious weather. In fact I managed to hike roughly 40 kilometres out and about around Clarens along some wonderful paths with the most beautiful scenery imaginable. The sun shone each day and it was just perfect hiking weather. In between hikes I lounged about lying on the grass in the hot sun listening to music and reading books. Just perfect heaven on earth. Of course with gallons of tea drunk.

I was also very lucky to stay in the lovely and charming B & B Rosewood Corner hosted by Mr and Mrs Segar my wonderful hosts for the week end. I had many chats with Mr Segar (I went to high school with his two sons) and a lot of them about the Christian Faith which has really helped me on my journey in that regard. We also had some good belly laughs about school days with many amusing anecdotes and crazy stories being told by both of us. It really was a special week end and a great break.

After a hearty breakfast I was off to Senekal to visit with the most unbelievable gentleman Johan Van Der Merwe. What a lovely man. We had a good chat and went through his listing with Johan being very enthusiastic about www.homeimprovement4u.co.za

It was then onto Ficksburg to see store owner Christo de Beer who was amazingly patient as we really battled to get into his listing. First we tried his laptop, then his mobile phone which also failed us. He then took his ipad from his safe and we tried on that. We got wi-fi on that but then battled with his Username so I called the trusty and ever helpful Fee my wonderful business partner who helped by quickly changing the username and password and we were in. This all took at least 15 minutes and never once did Christo become impatient or want to give up. Thank you Christo as I can tell you my cortisol was shooting up and up with nerves with each failure to find a way to see his listing.

I then headed to the farm of Ralph and Cath Stevens the nicest people you will ever hope to meet. They farm just outside Ficksburg and lucky for me have become great friends of mine. Ralph went to the same school as me but a few years after, but that is by the by as I met him through the mighty and well known Askew family. An OBF (Old Bluff Family) consisting of 7 brothers and a sister. A wonderfully kind and happy family.

I got to Ralph’s mid-afternoon and after a cuppa we decided to go for a mountain bike ride way up into the mountains of his farm. We had an absolutely beaut ride and saw some Boer War sites along the way which I was very excited to hear about and then finished off the ride with the most amazing sunset and a beer or two Ralph had kindly packed before leaving.

We arrived home after dark and after a hot shower had an awesome dinner of lamb chops prepared by the beautiful Cath and then we went to see their new house.

I got into a warm bed late that night and just could not have had a better day. Thank you Ralph and Cath for a super visit. You guys are a very great couple and both such lovely people. Happy days to fun times ahead. Yay for the Good Guys smiley
